Thistledown's Skye of Cairngorm
The half Peruvian medium rose grey son of our champion herdsire, Ben MacDhui, Skye inherits an award-winning grey and black heritage from his sire which goes back 4 generations. Skye's dam, Rhiannon, is a granddaughter of Pperuvian Guellermo and daughter of the multiple ribbon-winning solid rose grey, Royal Peruvian Challenger. Skye's full brother, the light rose grey Kinross, sold as a herdsire prospect at only 4 months of age and earned a blue ribbon in his first showring appearance. Skye is the most beautiful lavender grey color, with virtually no spots anywhere in his blanket. He exhibits beautiful, square, typey, heavy-boned conformation, and probably has the best conformation of all our 2004 crias, which is saying something, as the only one of those crias to show so far is a Champion!  This little guy has inherited his sire's exceptional density, with a bold crimp throughout his blanket and all the way into his tail.

Skye won a blue ribbon at his first show, in a juvenile shorn class at the Virginia State Fair in September 2005. The judge also complimented him on the density and quality of his fleece after the class!

Sire, Ben MacDhui
Skye's multiple award-winning sire, Ben MacDhui is descended from a long and impressive line of greys and blacks. His sire, Request the Best, is one of the most spectacular grey herdsires in the country, a multiple blue ribbon winner who placed first at the AOBA Nationals for three successive years. From his black dam, MacDhui has inherited wonderful conformation and a grey and black pedigree going back four generations, including SA Silverado and The Silversmith. MacDhui has incredibly dense, fine, medium silver grey fiber and AOBA winning genetics to go with his gentle disposition.

MacDhui's awards: Reserve Champion and a blue ribbon at the Virginia Classic 2002, judged by Anthony Stachowski; second place in adult male halter at the 2002 MaPaca Jubilee, judged by Mike Safley (over 1100 entries) and second place fleece awarded by Nard Mullen at the same show ; first at the 2001 MaPaca Jubilee in full fleece yearling halter, judged by Julio Sumar and Susan Tellez (over 900 alpacas); second at the 2001 Triple Crown in Dayton Ohio, (over 250 alpacas); third at the 2000 Keystone Klassic in the Juvenile Grey class.

Dam, Rhiannon

Paternal half sister, Shannon
Rhiannon is a daughter of the dark rose grey macho, Royal Peruvian Challenger, who has show presence, beautiful conformation, and remarkable fiber qualities. In 1999 his conformation made him the National winner of the shorn class out of 23 alpacas. His fiber took second nationally in 1999 and tied for first in the 2000 National Handcrafters’ SpinOff competition. Rhiannon also inherited excellent heavy-boned conformation, a silky handle and good density from her dam, SiSi, who has produced only award-winning offspring.

LSG full brother, Kinross

Skye, May 2005
Skye is the most beautiful lavender grey color, with virtually no spots anywhere in his blanket. This little guy has clearly inherited his sire's exceptional density, with a bold crimp throughout his blanket and all the way into his tail. His temperament is incredibly mellow and good-natured and he has a correct bite. Skye will make someone a wonderful herdsire, and we retain breedings or a half interest on any sale.
Skye's fiber, October 2005 (after only 6 months growth)!
