Thistledown's Shannon of Cairngorm
Our champion medium silver grey herdsire Ben MacDhui has his first cria on the ground, and she is a beauty! Shannon is medium silver grey, with a white face, grey legs, dark eyes and lovely conformation. She looks to have inherited her sire's award-winning density and we couldn't be more pleased with her coloring. Dhui has exceptional density and lock structure to his award winning fleece, excellent conformation, an exquisite typey head, and a truly delightful temperament. His awards include Reserve Champion and a blue ribbon at the Virginia Classic 2002; second place in adult male halter at the 2002 MaPaca Jubilee, and second place fleece at the same show; first at the 2001 MaPaca Jubilee in full fleece yearling halter and second at the 2001 Triple Crown in Dayton Ohio. Shannon's dam, Whitney, is dark maroon with white facial markings and grey spots on her blanket and nose. A natural leader, Whitney has great crimp and density to her fiber and excellent coverage. Her sire, the full Peruvian JA Ivan, has outstanding presence, fiber quality and density, inherited from his famous sire Peruvian Aladdin.

Awards: 2nd place "Bred and Owned" female at the 2005 Virginia Classic show.

Sire, Ben MacDhui, VA Classic 2002
Shannon's multiple award-winning sire, Ben MacDhui is descended from a long and impressive line of greys and blacks. His sire, Request the Best, is one of the most spectacular grey herdsires in the country, a multiple blue ribbon winner who placed first at the AOBA Nationals for three successive years. From his black dam, MacDhui has inherited wonderful conformation and a grey and black pedigree going back four generations, including SA Silverado and The Silversmith. MacDhui has incredibly dense, fine, medium silver grey fiber and AOBA winning genetics to go with his gentle disposition.

Dam, Whitney

Shannon, January 2004
Shannon's dam, Whitney, is a half-Peruvian granddaughter of Peruvian Aladdin, who exhibits wonderful crimp and density. Whitney inherited her magnificent and rare maroon coloration from Lantara, her Chilean dam, who is also mother to Whitney's award-winning maroon half brother Romeo, and her silver half sister Titania. Whitney has never been shown and is a member of our core breeding herd. Recently we have noticed that she is developing more and more grey coloration - on the tips of her ears, her tail, her nose and in her blanket. She is definitely one of our most intelligent, intuitive and beautiful females, with good bone, a nice upright carriage and lovely fiber.

Shannon, January 2004
Shannon of Cairngorm is named to honor her father Ben MacDhui, who is named after the tallest mountain in the Scottish Cairngorm mountain range. She has clearly inherited her sire's outstanding density, and has beautiful handle to her fiber, just like her dam Whitney. Shannon is friendly and outgoing and has excellent presence and a delightfully curious attitude. If she is weaned in time, we hope to show her in the spring of 2004. This little lady is exactly what we hoped for from this breeding!
