Challenger's Royal Rhiannon
Granddaughter of Pperuvian Guellermo and full Peruvian daughter of the rarest of the rare: a dark rose grey Peruvian male, Rhiannon brings top quality rose grey genetics to our herd. She has inherited the positive conformation and fiber attributes of her parents, and her first two offspring are both grey. Her multiple ribbon-winning sire, Royal Peruvian Challenger, has show presence, beautiful conformation, and remarkable fiber qualities. In 1999 his conformation made him the National winner of the shorn class out of 23 alpacas. His fiber took second nationally in 1999 and tied for first in the 2000 National Handcrafters’ SpinOff competition. Rhiannon’s dam, SiSi, a producer of major award-winners, has wonderful conformation and fiber with density, crimp and luster. In 2003, Rhiannon produced a beautiful rose grey son, Kinross, sired by our award-winning grey herdsire, Ben MacDhui. Kinross sold as a junior herdsire at only 4 months of age, and won a blue ribbon at his first show. This match was so successful that we repeated the breeding twice more, to produce Skye, a beautiful medium silver grey in 2004 and Elin, a solid brown female with black points, in 2005!

Awards: Rhiannon has never been shown, but has consistently produced show-quality colored offspring. Her rose grey son won a blue ribbon at his first show in 2004, her silver grey son won a blue ribbon in his first show in 2005 and a first place in full fleece halter at the Buckeye Show in 2006. We have selected her show-quality dark brown daughter, Elin, to remain in our foundation herd.

PC Peruvian Knightrider
Rhiannon has twice produced grey when bred to our grey Champion male, Ben MacDhui. In November 2003, she gave birth to the light rose grey Kinross, and in November 2004 she produced the medium silver grey Skye. In October 2005 she produced Elin, a beautiful red/brown female with black points from the same breeding combination.

Rhiannon is now being bred with our Champion, 2X AOBA National ribbon-winning, full Peruvian, true black herdsire, PC Peruvian Knightrider. The son of two true black Peruvian imports, 5Peruvian Black Ice and 6Peruvian Anastasia, Knightrider offers rare black West Coast genetics, excellent conformation and beautiful dense, crimpy fiber with great staple length and handle. Knightrider has produced grey, maroon and black offspring, so this match has excellent potential to produce a full Peruvian colored cria of quality in 2006.

Alpacafest (shorn). The following year he placed first at the 2003 PAOBA Breeders Showcase, third at the 2003 AOBA National Conference, first at the 2003 SE PA Alpaca Show (shorn), and first at the 2003 NY Empire Extravaganza (shorn). Sire, Royal Peruvian Challenger

LSG son, Kinross, September 2004

Royal Peruvian Challenger, Rhiannon's sire, is a rare dark rose grey full Peruvian macho with magnificent presence, nationally recognised fiber quality and conformation, and his offspring are in great demand. Rhiannon's dam, SiSi, has excellent heavy-boned conformation, tremendous density, crimp and luster to her fiber, and has produced only show quality offspring, including a second place winner in the intensely competitive white class at MaPaca 2000, and an award-winning dark fawn son.

We decided to start Rhiannon's breeding career in the Fall, rather than holding her open until the Spring showing season, so she has never been shown. Rhiannon's fiber analysis was 22.1 AFD, 4.1 SD, 18.4 CV and 4.4% > 30 microns, she has a perfect bite (never trimmed at over 4 years, and her dam, SiSi has never had her bite trimmed at 9 years)!

MSG son, Skye, October 2005

Skye's fiber at 6 months of age
Rhiannon's first son, Kinross, is light rose grey, with silver fibers shot evenly throughout his golden fleece. Rhiannon was rebred to Dhui for her Fall 2004 cria, Skye, a 2X blue ribbon-winning silver grey male, and bred back to Dhui again for her Fall 2005 cria, Elin, a red/brown female with black points. We plan to keep Elin for our foundation herd - she has excellent bone, conformation, coverage, density and handle, as well as a calm and trusting temperament, so should be a perfect addition to our black and grey breeding program!
