Thistledown Meghan Nikos

This healthy fawn / indefinite light / light rose grey daughter of our dark brown blue ribbon winning dam, Iris, arrived on October 21, 2010, and she is beautiful. She has her dam's signature silky-soft handle, combined with the fineness of her 3X Champion dark silver grey sire, Nikos, plus beautiful crimp and world class genetics from both parents. Meghan exhibits uniformity and crimp fand is going to have a gorgeous head too, just like her full brother, Tristan. This granddaughter of the AOBA blue winning silver grey Aussie Rockford, and rose grey Champion McGinnis, looks to be a genetically rose grey alpaca, with potential to produce both rose and silver grey. Her Accoyo Yupanqui and Accoyo Felix bloodlines are an asset in any colored breeding program. Meghan's bloodlines include Accoyo Yupanqui, Accoyo Felix, Peruvian Hemingway and PPPeruvian Augusto.

Dam, Iris
Tristan's dam, Iris is the blue ribbon-winning, brown / recessive black daughter of the Champion rose grey, McGinnis, who sired both the grey Color Champion female at the 2004 AOBA Nationals, and the 2005 grey Futurity Champion female. Iris is a very attractive female, with soft-handled, crimpy, uniform fiber, wonderful staple length, and good coverage. She is very balanced, with straight legs, lovely overall conformation and a perfect bite. She also has an outstanding temperament, and is a wonderful mother and milker.

Awards: Iris placed second at her first show, in the juvenile dark composite class at MAPACA in 2007. She went on to win a blue ribbon in the 2007 PAOBA fleece show, a second place in both the 2007 & 2008 LA Deep South Spinoff competitions and a second place in the prestigious National Fiber to Fashion Spinoff in 2008.

Paternal grandsire, Aussie Rockford

Tristan's sire is Nikos, the 3X Champion, half-accoyo, dark silver grey son of the renowned half-accoyo silver grey herdsire Aussie Rockford, and Peaceful Valley Priya. He has outstanding conformation, a well-shaped beautiful head, extreme coverage and a dense topknot. His fleece is very, very fine and bright, with good architecture and a gorgeous dark silver grey color. 

Awards: Nikos has three purple ribbons to his credit, including the Championship at the 2005 Virginia Classic, Best Grey/Multi in show in the huge 2005 OABA SpinOff, with a score of 93.5/100, and Reserve Champion grey fleece at MaPaca 2006, where judge Diana Timmerman awarded his 30 month fleece 20/20 for fineness and handle. Nikos also has 9 blue ribbons to his credit, including a first place in full fleece halter at MaPaca 2005, awarded by Dr. Julio Sumar.

Meghan was named during our 4th annual farm Open House, which is held over the first weekend of November every year. The Goochland girl scout Daisies, Brownies and Juniors who held their meeting at our farm on Sunday 7, November voted on Meghan's name, and then had their picture taken together!
